Losing my DH virginity

If you climb the hill by bike, you gotta ride back down with some style.

This is what I kept in mind before trying downhill bike for the very first time. My friend Gašper, who's been in this sport for a while, knew exactly how much I'd love to try it, so visiting Bikepark Javornik was his birthday present to me. It was a really warm day in September, so the tracks were pretty much dry.

No matter how easy it seems when you're a viewer- it's not when you try it. It took me some bruises and a handache to realise that, but I still think it was a great experience and I got really motivated to do better next time.
And because videos just weren't impressive enough to be shared with you guys, here's a photo my happy face under helmet, which should do the trick for now.

And the park was great - it's clear that guys are really doing their best at managing different tracks, providing lots of options for many types of riders and plenty of curves, jumps and drops to keep it interesting. Bikepark Javornik, keep up the good work, I'll be back for sure to eventually try it all.

Do not miss my DH updates in spring! ;)

Food rule #2: Breakfast like a champ!

Everybody knows how important it is to have breakfast in the morning. Not just a candy bar on the way to school or a cup of coffee before leaving the house, but a healthy meal, which should help us begin our day well and give us plenty of energy.

I usually have wholegrain cereals with milk or yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, but I like to enjoy in warm dishes at days when there's no need to hurry.
This is what I had today - two eggs, prepared on a bit of olive oil, few slices of smoked salmon and avocado on top, some rucola for decoration and a wholegrain roll. A complete meal, rich in fibre, healthy fats and protein. Add a black tea with milk as a drink, or, if you need to really burst your energy, a cup of coffee.

The Bodies Revealed exhibition

I've been to (so far my favorite) exhibition in Ljubljana last month - Bodies Revealed.
It's an asian exhibition, travelling across the globe, which represents parts of the body, tissues and organs from real human corpses. Even though it had been prohibited in some large cities (for ex. London), it has still fascinated people in others. All what we're made of is being represented in nine galleries - such as bones, muscles, blood vessels and heart,... To me, it was most interesting to see different organs, diseased by cancer, stroke, cholesterol,...

I hung a poster of the exhibition on my closet's door. This is how I'll not only remember the visit, but also keep in mind that our bodies are wonderful and valuable machines, which we need to take extra care of.

The exhibition is now currently in Belgrade, Serbia, and will remain so for the next few months.

Mushroom(ing)

A bit of rain and a bit of sun. It makes the perfect combination for mushrooms to grow, so going to the forest is a must for everyone who loves to eat them. This autumn was ideal!

Light forests and forest edges are most common location when looking for mushrooms.

I went for a long walk with our dog Skadi and found all that, even though I didn't pay much attention to the ground. I almost tripped over the penny bun twins (on the left), tried to ignore them, but found their neighbor (small penny bun next to twins) soon after. I just took my pullover off and made a semi-sack, since I managed to find even more mushrooms.

What my mom and dad found the day after. Parasol mushrooms (on the left side) are one of my favorites.  Very tasty if rolled in scrambled egg and then bakes in a pan.
Don't forget to always make sure you gathered edible mushrooms! Some resemble the latter ones, but may be in fact poisonous. Always use guides or handbooks, and if you're still not sure, it's best to leave mushrooms in forest.

... And I fell in love with MTB

A brand new bike isn't a part of a regular girl's wishlist. And so, for way too long, it wasn't a part of mine either.

I never enjoyed running or walking on flat terrain. And hey, it takes some time to get on top of some hill here in our region - so when you're finally there, you still need an hour to get back home. Also, when I went for my regular run twice or three times in a row, my knees disapproved. Bike was my best solution and, luckily, a new way of entertainment, even though I hadn't had a bike for years.

Meet my Myka. This low budget minion is what I've been riding for the last few months - enough for me to favorize Specialized team (Forgive me my lack of biking experience!). After a while, I changed wheels and pedals and added disc brakes. Also some dirt and scratches.

Uphill part of my tours may be boring and 'asphaltic'. A true prize is in descent from at least 900 m altitude - at best, through forest! Roots and rocks make it fun and exciting.

My favorite bike wear. Beware of cats on bikes!
